This pain is bound inside

like hatchling crows

scratching to break free

Their claws inside your belly

always tearing to find release

The tormented bundles

of feather, beak and bone

don't feel the pain that they inflict.

You do not feel the terror

in their black eyes

which look out-

only to be faced with darkness,

again and again.

The paradox of their trappings

is the core of their hell

living inside you.

The winged creatures

who will never fly

don't ponder the truth;

They know in this struggle

you will both surely die.
